Community Service

The NFHF considers community service as work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where people live, so their own community reaps the benefits of their work.

The NFHF intends to focus the majority of its community service on partnerships to improve the conditions needed for upward mobility and to help address the housing crisis and shortages in Maryland’s most vulnerable populations. The statistics reflect that there is a severe housing cost problem with the minority populations spending close to 50% of all household income on housing. Additionally, there is an extreme housing shortage of rental homes and apartments available to low-income residents. The Maryland Housing Needs Assessment reports that there is a housing instability with one-third of all households experiencing housing cost burdens. Among this populations, 33% of all needed housing are for rental needs of residents. Low-income households comprise approximately 50% of the housing needs and they are severely cost burdened.

The NFHF understands that a family’s home is their most important asset. We intend to partner with organizations who offer financial literacy, holistic support and training for families and emergency housing financial assistance to underserved communities and residents.
